Collections: Black Cats and Pumpkins

Tuesday, October 7, 2025

Recently I hauled out my pumpkin collection. I think this display looks pretty good. These are all, except to the one in the center of the back row, ceramic.

Carving pumpkins is an early and fond Halloween memory for me. Now, whenever I cut open a pumpkin the smell immediately brings me back to the kitchen floor of the house on Stevens. Mom or Dad would cut the top out of the pumpkin and the distinctive smell would hit me. My job was to help scrape out the goop. As I got older I was allowed to handle the knife.

The black cats are out too.

Black cats were represented in some of the decorations we had for Halloween as kids so there's nostalgia and a connection to many happy Halloween memories from the past involved in collecting them. However, I also just love cats. Having pets just makes life better in my opinion. Every cat or dog I've ever had has been such an amazing experience so every reminder of them brings me a lot of joy.
Here's the cat I'm currently loving on, Sylvester. So although technically not a black cat he is gray which is basically light black. A stretch, maybe, but let's go with that. He's a light black cat.

He IS the apple of our eyes.

Notice the t-shirt.

Cigar this afternoon. We're back to leather jacket weather. I'm all about it.

Pumpkin roulade for dessert tonight.

The moon reached fullness during the later afternoon yesterday and remained in full lumination until early this morning. The October full moon is also known as the harvest moon.

According to CNN, " The moniker harvest moon indicates that it’s the full moon event closest to the autumnal equinox, or the first day of fall. Historically, the moon’s bright light helped farmers complete their harvests for the year, according to The Old Farmer’s Almanac. This moon will be the first of three back-to-back supermoons this year. A supermoon happens when the moon reaches perigee, or its nearest point to our planet, making it appear larger and fuller."
