Dale and I had Mom and John over for dinner last night. Dale made burgers and roasted Brussels sprouts. He also picked up potato salad and pumpkin pie made by Mrs. Kowalski.
It sure was delicious. Dale whipped up some real whipping cream and mentioned that the first time he remembers having the real stuff (rather that Redi-Whip or Cool-Whip) was when the two of us went to the old Figlio's in Calhoun Square back in the early 90s. Mom revealed she never really liked Cool-Whip even though we had it a lot back in the 70s and 80s. My Baba was big on serving Cool-Whip with desserts too. I can't remember why it was such a big deal and if it was thought at the time to be a better alternative to real cream. I used to raid the fridge once in a while as a kid and sneak a couple of big spoonfuls of Cool-Whip as a snack.
