This'll probably end up being one of the warmest Septembers on record. The high temps have been mostly around 80-85 which is not horrible in and of itself but the dewpoints have been NASTY which has made it really gross, especially in the school where I work where the air conditioning can't keep up with the humidity. Needless to say it just hasn't felt very fall-like which is really saying something now that we're entering the last third of the month.
Still warm today however we had a break in the humidity which felt nice. Also, there are beginnings of changing leaf colors. The changes of course have to do with lower temperatures but also in the amount of daylight. Some leaves are going from their usual green to a lighter more lime green which will eventually become yellow. I'll take the change in leaf color as a sign it's okay to pick up a pumpkin. I got this little one when we stopped by Lunds and Byerly's for dinner makings.
I noticed a dad in the produce aisle pushing around his two little girls in his grocery cart. When he walked by the pumpkins one of them said, "Dad, can we get a pumpkin?" He responded "No, I've already got two pumpkins in my cart." I hadn't noticed him with any pumpkins when I first saw him with the girls a couple minutes earlier so I looked over to see if he was talking about actual pumpkins or the girls. Just as I noticed there were no pumpkins the other of the two girls cried, "Dad! We're not pumpkins!!" So cute.
