It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown

Sunday,  November 3, 2024

It's been a few years since we've watched this one. I have it on DVD and it's been missing for a while. I. only recently found it.

It's one of my favorites and I love how captures the colors and overall feeling of autumn.

Snoopy really steals the show as the World War I Flying Ace. I love watching him clomp around the French countryside.

I also love the scene where he vacillates between joy and despair depending on what theme Schroeder is playing on his piano.

Halloween 2024

 Thursday, October 31,  2024

Snow today. October dustings are not uncommon although this one just squeaked in as we haven't had any others. Considering it was 78 degrees two days ago this is really something.

Today Ms. Cruz brought mini cupcakes for the kids. I helped her pass them out at lunch time.

My two 1st grade colleagues and I did a craft rotation with the students. I showed the kids how to make pumpkin lanterns.

Cheryl showed them how to make spiders.

And Baruk made paper bag scarecrows with them.

The snow turned to a very light rain as I left school  and ended before I made it home.

I couldn't help but remember the Halloween Blizzard of 1991 as the falling snow swirled around the courtyard at school this morning and as I walked home from school.

The snow fell steadily for three days beginning on October 31, 1991. If I remember correctly the Twin Cities got just under 30 inches.

Cigar when I got home from school.

Next, I pulled out the Halloween candy.

Set out some tchotchkes.

Hauled the pumpkins outside and then settled in to wait for trick or treaters around 5 o'clock.

The Munsters, a favorite television show from when I was a kid, was on so I watched that as I kept and eye out for early trick or treaters.

Dale got home from a walk around 6:00 and I told him no one had stopped by yet. He said he saw a bunch of kids coming out of their houses and weren't that far away. I poked my head out the door and could hear them a street or two over.

Still no one by 6:30 so Dale started making dinner. Shortly after I could see the kids had finally made it to our block. The Bride of Frankenstein began on TCM as the first couple kids made it to our door.

We had about 20 trick or treaters total stop by and I only gave out about half the candy. Low turn out maybe  because of the cold. The kids were all very polite and said thank you but I was surprised by how many didn't actually say "trick or treat." I didn't say anything. After a long day of teaching I didn't feel like giving out any more directions.

All in all it was a laid back and pleasant Halloween.

One Day Until Halloween 2024

Wednesday, October 30, 2024

Picked up Halloween candy at Lunds tonight. Dale and I watched The Seventh Victim on TCM during dinner.

Meant to carve a pumpkin tonight but I got sucked in to Psycho which was on after dinner. I've seen this one before but it's been a while. The shower scene is always shocking but when see it now I can't help but think of the Mel Brooks spoof in High Anxiety.

Two Days Until Halloween 2024

Tuesday, October 29, 2024

Saw this driving to brunch on Sunday.

Brunch at The Lowbrow. Had their Old Fashioned. It's such a fall drink, not that that keeps me from drinking them the rest of the year.

Cigar in the yard Sunday afternoon. Really enjoying the October weather.

Bought a carving pumpkin Monday night.

Feeling pretty summery this afternoon.

Decided it was too nice out not to have a cigar.

Back to pumpking roulade for dessert tonight.

Halloween Approacheth: MEA Weekend - Sunday

 Sunday, October 20, 2024

Beautiful day to get some yard work done. Got quite a bit of growth cut back.

Dale and I picked up some more mums today.  Got them potted.

As the afternoon progressed it became even more pleasant to be outside.

I lit up a Romeo y Julietta and sat out back.

Bela Lugosi's birthday today.

So in honor of that we watched the original Dracula.

Dwight Frye did a great job playing Renfield. The whole movie was creepy and atmospheric.

We also watched Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein. Bela Lugosi's plays Dracula in this one too although you probably wouldn't have guessed it based on the title alone.

Halloween Approacheth: MEA Weekend - Saturday

Saturday, October 19, 2024

Been doing a good job keeping up with my steps over this 4-day weekend. I've really been enjoying the fall colors on my walks.

Dale and I decided to pick up some mums at Bachman's and have lunch at Patrick's Bakery while there. We each got salads and a cookie.

Dale had the chocolate chip and I had the frosted pumpkin butter cookie.

We were both quite proud of ourselves for getting some raking done this afternoon.

Got the mums into some pots. They look pretty good.

Finished the afternoon up with a cigar.

Dale joined me for a bit outside. He mentioned how nice it's been to sit outside in September and October. It's been so much drier these past two months due to the lack of rain which has made it so much less buggy as opposed to
June-August which were so wet.

I've spent more time outside this past summer regardless as my cigars are quite an effective bug repellant.

Dale was a doll and made dinner so I could finish up my cigar. So far this has been a great long weekend and I think I speak for Dale too when I say that.
