Halloween 2022 - The Day After

Tuesday, November 1, 2022

Guess we're ready to move on to the next holiday. Saw these guys while walking home from school today.

Another beautiful day. Warmer than yesterday and still looking at 76 for tomorrow.

Halloween 2022 - Dale's Home

Monday, October 31, 2022

After my cigar I picked up Dale and we decided to go out for dinner and NOT pass out candy. He was tired from a long trip and I was tired from teaching on Halloween (decent day, just exhausting).

We went to Busters on 28th. The houses which share the block with Buster's always do it up big for Halloween. The above picture doesn't show well the number of houses that participate. You can tell the people living there really enjoy passing out candy.

Halloween 2022 - Halloween Cigar Part 2: Lighting Up

Monday, October 31, 2022

After lighting up I sat out back with a little vodka.

Oliva cigars are one of my newer favorites.

Halloween 2022 - Halloween Cigar Part 1: Beautiful Weather

Monday, October 31, 2022

Raced home from school so I could squeeze in a cigar before having to pick Dale up at the light rail station on Hiawatha. He's returning from his trip out to Arizona to help his parents move.

It's incredibly nice out and it's supposed to get up to 76 on Wednesday.

The unseasonably warm weather is a bit spooky but I'm still gonna enjoy it.

Halloween 2022 - Halloween Glasses

Monday, October 31, 2022

Other teachers on my team planned on dressing up today. I wasn't into it but wore my pumpkin glasses so as not to be complete party pooper.

Halloween Approacheth 2022 - Halloween Eve

Sunday, October 30, 2022

Picked up fixings for Bloody Mary's and had a couple.

Caught the 1951 short film Return to Glennascaul with Orson Wells. It was a fun and spooky take on the oft-used vanishing hitch-hiker storyline. Only 23 minutes long, it was nominated for an Oscar for Best Short Subject.

It's always nice to have Sylvester around as company but especially so when Dale is gone.

Mike texted me some pictures of Halloween tchotchkes. Not sure if they're Charisse's or if he's at someone else's house.

Halloween Approacheth 2022 - Unseasonably Warm

Saturday, October 29, 2022

Got some yard work done and now trying to relax and enjoy this unseasonably beautiful weather. The weather for Halloween itself is supposed to be nice enough for kids to not to have to wear jackets while trick or treating.

Halloween Approacheth 2022 - Scary Movies & a Quiet Evening In

Friday, October 28, 2022

Whoa, long week. Dale's had to go to Arizona to help his parents move and work's been, well, work. I'm exhausted. I watched Poltergeist on TCM which I've never seen before and was much better than I thought it would be. It was sufficiently creepy and I can't believe it was made 40 years ago.

After Poltergeist I caught the end of Scary Movie and the beginning of Scary Movie 2. Funny stuff.

And I'm a big Anna Faris fan.

It was incredibly sunny and pleasant this afternoon.

Since Dale's gone I had a cigar on the porch.

Pizza for dinner.

And a kitty next to me on the couch.

Halloween Approacheth 2022 - Werewolf of London

Monday, October 24, 2022

Watched Universal Picture's Werewolf of London tonight. It's from 1935 so it predates Lon Cheney's The Wolf Man by 6 years.

I'd never seen the film before and quite liked it.

The werewolf's make-up in the film is rather minimalist. Originally there was to be a more extensive costume. Henry Hull plays the titular character and, according to rumor, he wasn't thrilled  about the hours it would take to accomplish a furrier look. Another rumor is that Hull didn't want his face obscured due to vanity. A more probable reason is found on Wikipedia which says, "According to his great-nephew Cortlandt Hull, [Henry] Hull, an accomplished makeup artist in his own right, argued that [the] original design obscured Hull's face so much that it would contradict the script, which specified that other characters were able to recognize the werewolf as [Wilfred] Glendon [the werewolf's human counterpart]."

Halloween Approacheth 2022 - Sunday MEA Weekend

Sunday, October 23, 2022

Took a walk up the street to a neighbor's house to get a picture of their Halloween display. Quite fun.

The gorgeous weather continues.

Did the leaf raking but Dale did most of the bagging.

I then had some time to sit in the backyard and begin Paul Newman's memoir.

Halloween Approacheth 2022 - Saturday MEA Weekend: Ticks

Saturday, October 22, 2022

Julie and Regina had us over along with Phyllis M. for dinner tonight.  It was once again time for Julie's annual showing of a schlocky horror film. Tonight's feature: Ticks (1993).

Julie made a pot pie, Phyllis brought some amazing desserts from a French bakery, and we brought salad.

Julie screened this movie for me and Dale and a bunch of friends almost 30 years ago not long after Dale and I first met. Neither of us remembered much about it other than Clint Howard being in it and the tag line, "I'm infested!!"

Phyllis thought it was the worst movie she'd ever seen although she's never watched The Mangler

Halloween Approacheth 2022 - Friday MEA Weekend: Hocus Pocus 2

Friday, October 21, 2022

Gary and Warren had us over to the townhouse for dinner tonight. Perry joined us as did Gary's mother, Marie.

After cocktails and snacks we had dinner. Warren made a lasagna. We watched Hocus Pocus 2 which was fun.

The original came out 29 years ago. My understanding is that the film was not initially that successful but became something of a cult classic over time due to repeated television showings. I never saw it until 2016.

Halloween Approacheth 2022 - Friday MEA Weekend: Fall Walks

Friday, October 21, 2022

Perfect weather for walking.

Due to the drought I didn't think fall colors would be that great this year but they're better than I expected.

My knee's still bugging me but I'm trying to at least get some steps in.
